A 10 minute exposure can make moonlight look like sunlight. There was a lot more sky visible when I started, then the clouds rolled in.

The weather here can (and does) transition really quickly. We woke up this morning to blasting winds and sideways snow, which transitioned into sunny snow-showers, then a generally beautiful sunny day.

Then Broncos + Golden Globes. Pretty nice Sunday.

Ouray Ice Festival!

Ouray is one of my favorite mountain towns. It’s even cooler when they pump millions of gallons of freezing water over the edge of a gorge and let people climb all over it. Of course, we had to stop at the culinaire¬†hot sauce and honey, and also at Mouse’s Chocolates and Coffee. It turns our Mouse’s has really fast public wifi, and is only a few blocks from where Ally works. I might have to keep that in mind…

Hannah gets really jumpy when we take walks in the dark. There’s a lot of walking when you live in the country/mountains.

By the way, that’s something that has been confusing me. I don’t know how to describe where we live. We’re on a cattle ranch surrounded by pasture land, but our horizons are dominated by snow-capped peaks. I guess I could just tell people to picture South Park.¬†

The chickens are laying pullet eggs like it’s their job now. When we moved here two weeks ago, Cindy and Matt were getting an egg every few days. Today Cindy came into our house with half a dozen, gifting us as many as our carton could hold. I’ve read that these are the best eggs a chicken will ever produce. I’m nervous to cook them now.

Tonight I finished Packing For Mars. It’s been a really long time since I finished a book, and it felt good.

Then cracked open S. which I’m super excited to get into. I’m still in FXC’s foreword and I’m hooked. I love how two pieces of paper fall out of the book when you turn to the second page. It’s already luring me in.

Also, I can’t stop thinking about Game of Thrones. I’m pretty sure my inner dialogue has gone British.

I’ve jumpstarted cars so many times in the last 12 months. New new year’s resolution: jumpstart less cars.

Ally and I took the dogs for a walk circumnavigating the property. At one point in a large open field on the North side of the property, a dog descended from the tree line and started running after us. Our dogs are leash (and everything else) aggressive, so we had to run for about 10 minutes through frozen snow drifts before the dog went back into the trees. It was exciting. The dogs lost their booties a lot, and at one point Bonnie hulked her neckerchief right off. Not sure how she got it to tear in half so cleanly…

We got dinner at the Grit, then swung by Colorado Boy on our way home. I’ve lived in a city known for its breweries for over 20 years and have never gotten a growler of anything. And now that I’ve lived in a tiny town (less than 1000 residents) with only one brewery for one week, I just had to stop and buy one.

Snowy Saturday on the ranch.

It was strange watching my family leave this morning instead of following them out. We officially live here now.

I got a call this morning from Support Plaza, a scammy company that said my Windows computer is infected and needs to be fixed. I didn’t believe them from the beginning, but for some reason I still stayed on the phone with them for 28 minutes. In that amount of time they weren’t able to explain what they were selling or what the point of the call was.

Maybe talking to solicitors is what you do for entertainment when you live in the mountains?
